Bill Self was one of the most well-known and wealthy basketball coaches. He was born December 27, 1962 in the city of Okmulgee. After reviving their Golden Eagles, Self was recruited by a their crosstown rival Tulsa and spent three seasons (1998 to 2000) in Tulsa, accumulating a best-ever 74-27 record. When he was at TU Self coached the Golden Hurricane to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000. Self was born in the town of Okmulgee, OK in which his father was the coach of the girls' team in Morris High School. He won a basketball scholarship at Oklahoma State University.
