Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12 November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej / Now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first gymnast to earn a 10. a competition at the Olympics. Comaneci was spotted by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics coach at the time she was only six years old. Comaneci competed for the first time in the national junior championships and finished 13th. The following year she was crowned champion. The following year, 1973 as well as 1974, she was the junior all-round champion. Her first senior competition in 1975, she beat Russian Lyudmila Turkishcheva, the five-time European champ winning four golds and a silver. She was the first woman to complete a reverse double salo with the bar with a parallel surface when she won the American Cup, New York City 1976.
